Make the kitchen a healing space

Kitchen garden

“Growing your own food is like printing your own money” Ron Finley, guerrilla gardener.

I wanted to start my own veg patch for years but it was Ron Finley’s short Ted presentation that gave me the final ambition to do so. I did not imagine the pleasure and satisfaction of growing and eating out of my own garden.

Have a look at the Ted Talk that got me inspired:

Strawberry time is happy time!
Salad greens are my great success in the kitchen garden
All picked up from my small kitchen garden; rocket, oak leaf, radicchio and butter head
Fresh herbs play major role in my cooking and diet
My kids LOVE the whole business of growing veg in our back garden
Mange tout, first crop. Sweet and crispy. When so fresh doesn’t need much doing and seasoning just lightly stir-fried in some olive oil, salt and pepper and a dash of good balsamico
Gardening is grounding
Broad beans at blossom. It’s a beautiful plant that yields one of my favorite vegetable.
Fresh leeks just picked from my garden, so tender and flavorful
Is it ready Mummy? No, you should leave it on the plant till it’s red!!!…
Watching my tomatoes ripen fills my up with joy. Those cherry plum verity are my favorite.
When you grow your own tomatoes, you can sure let them ripen on the wine and pick them when they are fully ripe, red and juicy. This way they are not only super delicious but also much more nutritious
My Ethan is so proud with our beet root crop
Rainbow Swiss chard from my garden
Ethan is proud with our modest crops
Getting my kids involved in the kitchen, fun!
My dear little Ethan is helping me plant gentle little lettuce seedlings
Due to too much rain at the end of August, I had to pick what was left on the plants before they could ripen and turn red, but no worries, see my green tomatoes chutney recipe
Radishes are packed with sulfur, known as the beauty mineral, so easy to grow and delicious to nibble on.
I have about nine different salad greens growing in my garden. Major upgrade to my salads!
I just love watching my tomatoes ripen one by one.
Salad for dinner, freshly picked
If life throws green tomatoes at you, than make green tomato chutney!
Freshly picked beet root from my garden
Beet roots are so easy to grow and they are a big favorite in our kitchen
My kids love working and getting involved in the kitchen garden; from planning to planting, from harvesting to eating. They sure learned something about where their food is coming from.
Swiss chard from my garden
The radicchio plants are growing nicely
Freshly picked from my garden

MY WEEKLY TIP

COOKING CRISIS

Staring at the open fridge

Staring at the open fridge

Have you ever found yourself staring at your open fridge or larder, scanning the products and ingredients and have absolutely no idea what to make with them, or what do you feel like eating?
And what if this situation repeats itself again and again over a period of time?
Well, you are experiencing a ‘cooking crisis’. It happens to the best of cooks!
Here are some key strategy solutions to over come the crisis:
1. Go back to basics, opt for the most simple recipes that always work.
2. Make a list of your all time favourites and stick to them for some time till you feel creativity is crawling back.
3. Focus on one ingredient you have or feel like eating and look for recipes using it as the main ingredient.
4. Think of what type of dish you feel like eating; soup, salad, burgers, pie etc. and look for a recipe for that.
5. Cook together with friends and family or initiate potluck dinners. Sharing cooking and eating with others can inspire you and boost your creativity in the kitchen.
