TEACH YOUR KIDS HOW TO COOK

February 12, 2015 · Uncategorized · Leave a Comment

You teach your children how to talk, walk, play, dress up, do the right thing, say the right thing and a million other life skills.
Teach them how to cook, how to take care of themselves, how to feed themselves well. Before you know it, they will part from you and embark on their own journey, so make sure one of the gifts they can take with them is how to feed themselves healthily. Introduce them to the variety and abundance of fresh produce. Teach them the difference between fresh and processed food. Show them how to shop for food cleverly. Teach them basic cooking methods and techniques, how to use the right tool and how to store food. Like all the other things you teach them, they will turn it into a lifelong habit. Your bonus will be that your kids can also cook for YOU!!!
In the photo below is my darling Maya that luckily showed interest in cooking from an early age and turned out to be a fantastic and innovative cook. I’m confident she will feed herself well when she leaves for uni and till then she pampers us from time to time with her delicious, super healthy food.

MY WEEKLY TIP

COOKING CRISIS

Staring at the open fridge

Staring at the open fridge

Have you ever found yourself staring at your open fridge or larder, scanning the products and ingredients and have absolutely no idea what to make with them, or what do you feel like eating?
And what if this situation repeats itself again and again over a period of time?
Well, you are experiencing a ‘cooking crisis’. It happens to the best of cooks!
Here are some key strategy solutions to over come the crisis:
1. Go back to basics, opt for the most simple recipes that always work.
2. Make a list of your all time favourites and stick to them for some time till you feel creativity is crawling back.
3. Focus on one ingredient you have or feel like eating and look for recipes using it as the main ingredient.
4. Think of what type of dish you feel like eating; soup, salad, burgers, pie etc. and look for a recipe for that.
5. Cook together with friends and family or initiate potluck dinners. Sharing cooking and eating with others can inspire you and boost your creativity in the kitchen.
